KK13 Chassis and Welding Failure

Location of the failure
According to the purchaser, the failure occurred at the welded structural section joining the track assembly to the main body. The repair invoice described defective welding on the section joining the tracks to the main cab body.

Effect on the machine
The purchaser stated that the machine had completed approximately 40 operating hours of light-to-moderate work before the failure. The purchaser said the structural failure also damaged internal components and left the machine unable to start.
Those effects are presented as the purchaser’s account, supported by the need for local engineering work documented on the invoice.
Supplier’s initial assessment
This website does not reproduce an independent metallurgical report from the supplier. What is documented are supplier messages stating that the machine would be repaired, that a local repairer could re-weld the welds, and that the supplier would cover repair and logistics costs.
Local engineer’s repair
A local engineering company completed the work. The invoice (number 7603, dated 28 December 2025) totalled £652.50 including VAT.
Summarised from the invoice, the work included:
- Repair to defective welding
- Removal and preparation of the failed weld
- Re-welding of the joint
- Addition of a gusset reinforcement strip
- Repair to damaged thread and an oil leak associated with the original weld failure
Reinforcement work
The invoice included adding a gusset strip as part of the repair. That reinforcement is documented as work performed after the failure. This website does not claim that the original factory weld included equivalent reinforcement.
Associated damage
According to the invoice summary used on this site, the repair also addressed damage associated with the original weld failure, including a damaged thread and an oil leak. The purchaser separately stated that internal components were damaged and that the machine would not start after the structural failure.

Where a welded structural joint fails early in a machine’s life, an independent inspection can help establish:
- the precise location and extent of the weld failure;
- whether associated systems were damaged;
- what repair method is appropriate;
